Before I venture into the subject about what I do and what is ‘Truly essential’,I would first like to tell you what are essential oils and what is it used for. The common feedback I get when I tell people what I do are “Ohhh… is this orange essence?”, “Essential oils what?”, “OhI know this…herbal oils!”, “Yes yes, I use this for baking cakes”, “You started a beauty salon?” Well, essential oils are firstly not not herbal nor Ayurveda, it comes under Aromatherapy which is prevalent in the US and European countries.
Essential oils are extracted from plant sources such as petals, leaves, nuts, kernels, barks, stalks, flower, seeds, gums and resins from trees. The term ‘oil’ is very different from the usual oils we use,i.e., for cooking, lighting, etc. Essential oils are concentrated essences which are much lighter than water and evaporate very quickly.
To give you a quick example, the instant refreshing fragrance you get when you peel an orange or the sudden calmness when you smell sandalwood oil, essential oils are what gives this unique fragrance.
What are its uses?
Essential oils are known for their distinct fragrances, but are mainly used for its physical and psychological therapeutic properties. Let’s relate the points I have mentioned above to one of the most commonly used essential oils to treat cold, cough or a fever.
Extract: Essential oil is steam distilled from leaves and twigs
Fragrance: Eucalyptus has fresh, sharp top notes and woody undertones
Properties:Analgesic, antiseptic, anti-viral
Therapeutic properties:Stimulating, refreshing and clearing
So, here you go guys! I hope now there is some clarity on what essential oils are and no I have not started a beauty salon. 🙂
